Working with the Families of Prisoners and Youth Offenders
Relate has worked with a number of prisons and has developed a programme of courses specifically for prisoners and their families.
Courses and workshops for the families of prisoners and youth offenders
We work with partners and prisoners with a long custodial sentence. We help prepare everyone for the release time and the impact it will have on the family. We can also offer support to either partner through short support group workshops and counselling.
Research shows that good family relationships help reduce reoffending and the suppport of families when released can help offenders successfully settle back into the community.
Offenders who have a strong relationship to return to are 8 times less likely to reoffend.
A number of prisons use the Relate Counselling Services to help prisoners who are facing relationship and family difficulties while in custody. For this service, please contact your local Centre or call 0800 093 5711.
Additionally, a number of our courses are relevant to prison personnel.
